PROJECT

Dance

Supervisor: Madhuka de Silva

PhD Candidate

The project is trying to make creative body movement such as dance accessible for blind or low vision adult learners. Mostly, dance is represented and practiced as a visual art, which hinders the access for people who make use of non-visual senses to understand body movement.

The aim is to explore how body movement, such as dance, can be represented in different modalities not being restrictive to visual senses. This will be done through brainstorming viable options (such as sonification or haptics) and developing rapid prototypes for testing and implementation. The project hopes to encourage teachers and body movement artist communities to be more accessible in representing and sharing their work.
